Awesome = John Green

I could probably go on for days about how much I love John Green’s books, and his vlogs and his quotes, and well, the entirety of his online presence. But, in order to make sure that this post has some sort of coherence, I’m just going to offer you my top 5 things I heart about John Green.

And then some things about Hank Green, because I love him too :)

1.  His books. I don’t remember why I picked up my first John Green book. I’m pretty sure it had something to do with his friendship with Maureen Johnson. But I picked up An Abundance of Katherines and then continued to tear through his books.

DesktopThese are great contemporary novels with excellent male POVs. They are funny, and real, and have general nerdiness about them that just makes me love them. A character who loves last words of famous people? A character who writes musicals?  Um, hello my new best friends! While Looking for Alaska is probably John’s best work, Will Grayson, Will Grayson (co-written with David Levithan) is wonderful and I have a soft spot for An Abundance of Katherines.

2. This video. Yes, out of all of the brillant Vlogbrother videos John has put together, I love the Top Ten Vid Con Moments video the most. I think it’s because it kind of shows a broad overview of Nerdfightia, and the community that John and Hank work in.

I also find the Batman incident hilarious, no matter how many times I watch it.

3. His remarks within his videos, particularly these two.

4. His remarks within his books, in particular, this one.I need this poster-size and hanging in my house where I can see it every day to remind me that mediocracy isn’t okay, and my goals are worth pursuing.

5. Nerdfightia.

nerdfighteriaDid you know that the Nerdfightia has helped decreased world suck by  over
$71, 000, along with Project for Awesome? I’ve seen blogs, videos and art works all dedicated to help John and Hank spread the word of being awesome.

This is a fascinating online family and something much more than just a fan club.
